Dear Lee County Schools Families,
I am sure that most of you are monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) closely. As of today, there have been 4 cases confirmed in Kentucky. We want to share with our students, staff, parents and community members the steps that we are taking to maintain a clean and healthy environment within our schools. District leadership is working with local health department officials as well as following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to follow procedures to limit the spread of any illness.
We are being proactive in the cleaning and sanitizing of frequently touched surfaces. Just as we do during an active flu season, our district has created plans to help our students, staff, and families to stay healthy. For example, we will increase the frequency of cleaning all common area surfaces, wipe down keyboards and computers between classes, provide additional sanitizing of our school buses, etc.
We will be talking with our students, and we also encourage our parents to speak with your children, about ways to minimize the spread of disease and illness. Some of these measures are:
- Washing hands frequently with warm soapy water for at least 20 seconds
- Use hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available
- Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing with a tissue or by using your sleeve or elbow
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
- Stay home when you are sick and do not return to school for at least 24 hours of being fever-free WITHOUT the use of fever reducing medication such as Tylenol or ibuprofen
- Students with underlying health concerns or condition should speak to their health professionals
We will be monitoring upcoming field trips and extracurricular activities. Everything planned is currently on schedule but if any changes are made we will communicate to parents.
