Brief History of our LCSPD SRO's

After year's of looking, John Marshall was hired as our first School resource officer in 2018. This position was a City of Beattyville police officer that service the Lee County School system when schools were in session. The City of Beattyville, Mayor Scott Jackson, The Lee County Fiscal Court, Judge Steve Mays and the Lee County Schools system forms a partnership and split the salary so that the students of Lee County were protected.

The Lee County School District looked to find ways to add an SRO at both schools. After doing research and visiting other counties in the fall and winter of 2023-24, it was decided that we needed to explore the creation of the Lee County Schools Police Department. After completing board motions, board votes, applications and communications with the Kentucky State Police, the Lee County School Police Department received their official ORI number from the F.B.I. in the summer of 2024. Next up was the creation of a LCSPD patch, painting and decaling our SRO Jeep, gathering equipment and supplies, stocking an office but most importantly making a job post for our School Resource Officer position.

In early August 2024, Greg Brandenburg was hired as Lee County Schools Police Chief and first School Resource Officer for the Lee County Schools Police Department. Chief Brandenburg is posted at Lee County Elementary while Officer Marshall is at LCMHS.

In the summer of 2025, LCSPD hired John Marshall as our 2nd School Resource Officer. Officer Marshall had been employed by the Beattyville City Police but will now be employed through Lee County Schools. He will maintain his post at LCMHS.

LCSPD hired Phillip Noble in the Fall of 2025 as their 3rd SRO. Lee County schools has 2 campus' and become short handed when one of our 2 officers was out. Officer Noble will help at both schools and during after school events which allows our district to be fully covered when thing happen. Officer Noble has also been approved through EKU to teach our Law Enforcement Pathway at LCMHS beginning in the Spring 2026.

Lee County Schools is lucky to have Chief Brandenburg, Officer Marshall and Officer Noble as our School Resource Officer's. They have a combined 75 years of law enforcement experience that is vital in protecting our students but also forming lasting bonds and support with our students.
