About Mr. Thacker
Mr. Thacker is in his fifth year as the Electricity teacher at Lee County ATC. He grew up in Lee County and even attended the ATC in the Automotive program under Mr. Lucas.
Before teaching, Mr. Thacker worked over 16 years in the oil field, including five years hauling crude and equipment and three years as a mechanic. He graduated from Hazard Community and Technical College with a General Occupational Technical Studies degree in 2024 and also holds Class A CDLs.
Mr. Thacker has been married to his high school sweetheart, Kellie, for 20 years. Together, they have three children. Inspired by his wife, he chose to become a teacher and now enjoys preparing students for the future.
His favorite lesson to teach is how math applies to measuring, because it presents real-world problems for students to solve. He also leads SkillsUSA in Electricity, where he enjoys the meetings and working with students to procure, diagnose, repair, and sell washers and dryers.
Outside the classroom, Mr. Thacker volunteers as the assistant coach for the Lee County High School Boys Basketball team. He also enjoys playing video games and working on projects at home in his spare time.
