Emergency Non-Certified Substitute Teacher Training Scheduled August 30, August 31, and September 1, 2016


In response to growing difficulties experienced by the Lee County School District in recruiting and retaining qualified substitute teachers, an (18) clock hour orientation program (3-day workshop) will be offered for Emergency Non-Certified Substitute Teacher Applicants.  Interested parties who have less than 64 college hours, a high school diploma, or its equivalent, may apply.  The 3-day training will be held 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., August 30th,  August 31st, and September 1st, 2016  at the Lee County Board of Education Office Complex, 242 Lee Avenue, Beattyville, KY  41311. 

The Emergency Non-Certified School Personnel Program allows participating school districts to use persons with the following qualifications: 

  • a high school diploma, or its equivalent,
  • age twenty-five (25) or over, except an individual enrolled in an approved teacher education program who may be less than twenty-five (25) years old.

In addition, Lee County Schools require the following:

  • All substitute teachers shall meet criminal records check, medical examination, and pre-employment testing requirements, as specified in Board Policies 03.11, 03.111, and 03.13251.
  • Per 03.11, substitute teachers and student teachers assigned within the District shall be responsible for paying criminal background check and testing fees.
  • Per 03.111, all newly employed certified personnel, including substitute teachers, shall present documentation in the form of a medical examination performed by a designated licensed physician, physician assistant (PA), or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or by a licensed medical practitioner of the employee's choice. Certified employees, including substitute teachers, shall pay for medical examinations required for initial employment.
  • Per 03.13251, all applicants being considered for safety-sensitive positions shall be required to submit to a urinalysis test for the detection of the illegal use of drugs as part of the currently required post-offer, pre-employment physical.  Persons wishing to apply for substitute, safety sensitive positions will be responsible for paying post-offer, pre-employment testing fees.  An applicant refusing to complete any part of the drug-testing procedure shall not be considered an eligible candidate for employment with the District and shall be deemed to have withdrawn his/her application.
