William Owens elected to KSBA Board of Directors

Frankfort, KY (Feb. 10, 2011) - A member of the Lee County Board of Education has been 
elected to a state leadership position in the largest organization of elected officials in Kentucky. William A. Owens of Beattyville will serve a three-year term as a director-at-large on the Kentucky School Boards Association (KSBA) Board of Directors.  He was elected on Feb. 5 at the KSBA annual conference in Louisville. 

A local pastor, mission director, community center operator and youth worker for 32 years, Owens has served on the Lee County school board since 1990.  He previously served on the KSBA board as a regional chairperson.
 
Owens has been heavily involved in the development of volunteer fire departments in Breathitt, Clay, Lee, Owsley, Perry and Wolfe counties, serving as chief of the Beartrack department.  He is a graduate of Clay County High School and the Southland Bible Institute of Ashland.
 
Established in 1936, the nearly 900-member KSBA assists school districts and local boards of education in all 174 public school systems by providing training, consultation, advocacy and information about public education in Kentucky.  The 27-member KSBA Board of Directors oversees the association’s services and goals.
